Abdul Karim, a young Indian clerk, who in this film based on a true story adapted from the novel of the same name by Shrabani Basu, is coincidentally presented before the Queen to present a "mohur" minted in India in honor of Queen Victoria's 50th year on the throne (golden jubilee). At that time, the Queen is questioning her long reign on the throne. The two become close and quickly establish an extraordinary friendship.
