Before the Civil War, Amantha Starr enjoyed a life of privilege in Kentucky. Her father, a prosperous plantation owner, showered her with affection and ensured she received the finest education. However, her world is shattered when her father unexpectedly passes away. Amantha soon discovers that her father had been financially burdened and that her mother was, in fact, a slave who had a relationship with him.
